Helping Paws Rescue Where are they now |

If you adopted your pet from Helping Paws Rescue and would like to be on this page, please e-mail us a picture and a story! |

This is Corky and Lola. Corky is in the one with the red/white/blue bandanna. Lola is the one with the beds and pillows with them. Corky & Lola's owners, Ted & Erin, say you never know where you'll find them. They adopted the two dogs last September after meeting them at the Petco adoption clinic. Corky & Lola have become an intricate part of their family including their grown children, grandchildren, elderly parents and especially their Chihuahua, Chelsea. They somehow know that she is old (14+) and when she wants to play with them they are extremely gentle. They will lay flat on their stomachs and just move their front paws around, which Chelsea loves! Ted & Erin say these are amazing dogs who all of their neighbors have fallen in love with!

We adopted Tommy (left on bed) and Dora (right on bed) from Helping Paws in the Summer of 2006. Tommy came from an unsuccessful home visit. We first saw Tommy's sad little picture on the Helping Paws website and we knew we needed to meet him. Tommy was a shy little boy when he first came home from the adoption clinic. Since then, he has blossomed. He has a huge personality and is very mischievous, especially when it comes to slippers or anything else he can grab and run with! He loves to bark and will bark at everything--cars driving by, doorbells on TV, the buzzer on Wheel of Fortune. He loves to play chase with Dora and his new big brother Joey who came to live with them the beginning of 2008 after his parents moved to senior housing and could not take him. Dora is the queen and tries to keep the boys in line and although she is the smallest, she does a pretty good job. We say she is a rottie in a beagle body because she is not intimidated by any dog, regardless of their size. (Vet visits can be a bit tricky!) In the winter, Dora loves to plow through the snow and run up and down the snow banks. Our home would not be complete without our Beagles. We are very luck to have them in our family and will always be indebted to Helping Paws for helping us find the perfect companions. Candy and Bill

Here's the new improved Rip. He recently had ear surgery to remove the polyps. The surgery went well. He has "cleaned up" pretty good, but it appears every day is going to be a 'bad hair day' for all different directions like a thousand coiled springs going off. He has gained some weight which didn't surprise me with the rate he's eating. I just hope he doesn't figure out how to open the refrigerator. Sleeping is still his favorite activity - eating is a close second! He's a lot more active now and even has some favorite toys he plays with, including actually charging through the house chasing them. He's turned in to quite the cat. John

Here's Zeus. He has made himself right at home. He has met most of the family right up to licking my brother's little girl's face. He seems great around people and when you are not playing with him, he is as calm as can be. Saturday, he played with my son's female pitbull. The pitbull was a bit grumpy at first. Zeus is a lot bigger. But after she saw he was a big puppy and she was the boss, they wrestled for over an hour! The lawn looks like I tilled it up. He recently went swimming at the river with my son. He really likes the water. He will stick his head right under the water to get his toy. There is no staying dry with him. My son and his friend both came back soaked! Thanks again for finding us a great dog! Dan, Rocio, & Jeremy

This is Maisy (left) and Tallulah (right). See how snuggly they are. They are best buddies. Tallulah has gotten much bigger than Maisy. They are wonderful additions to the family. Hope lots of other owners are being blessed by great pets from Helping Paws! Amy

We got Minch in November of 2006. He is the best dog in the world. He has made our family 100% complete. We love him so much! Thank you so very much!!!! Janine

| This is Dusty and Sky (Patches). It took several weeks for both of them to come out in to the open so that I could see their entire bodies. They hid all the time and wouldn't come out to eat or go to the litter box unless I wasn't around. They did eat and use the litter however. Now they are out most of the time. Dusty is still nervous but she does let me pet her regularly. Sky will sit on my lap if I pick him up and hold him. He is doing really well. Both are getting bigger and chubbier. They are very close because they often sleep together much like they hid together. I am enjoying them very much. They have their own unique characters and they each have a special place in my heart. | Remember Molly? Molly came to the rescue with 4 other dogs. They were rescued from deplorable conditions in Northville. "The Newton's" write: Thanks again for rescuing Molly. She's a hoot and we love her! |

Here's Stanley. Stanley came to live with our family in September of 2006. After moving into a new house with our papillon, Veve (pictured in the right picture), and two cats, Patches & Danya (Patches is in the picture on the left), we decided we wanted to "rescue" a dog to help fill our house. Then we found Stanley, sort of by accident. After inquiring about another dog on the site, we were told that particular dog would not fit our lifestyle but there was another dog that seemed perfect for us, our two cats and alpha female. Stanley had been returned after an unsuccessful trial home visit with another family. We met Stanley and loved him right away and apparently he loved us right back. On our home visit a week later, Karen commented that she had never seen Stanley stay put in the living room when the door to the fenced in yard was wide open. Stanley really appears to love living with us and we love to have him. He is absolutely our family and as I write this, he is rolling around in the grass- something he recently started. I think he realized he really is here to stay with us forever. Thanks for all your help in matching Stanley to our family. Our other pup, Veve, thinks he is the greatest ever to walk the planet. The middle photo is Stanley doing his favorite thing: sleeping under a blanket on the couch! Thanks a lot - Sarah & Dave

This is Boomer (formerly Walker). He is sleeping past 4 am now. If we "run his butt off" and make sure he doesn't nap in the evening he will sleep until 5 or 6. We give him food He is a rip, and keeps us hopping! He is going to the door to go out 75% of the time!

Here's Lenny at his new home. He has a new sister! More to come.....

This is Boliver. Boliver arrived at Helping Paws Rescue when his owner passed away. At 21 lbs., he is a BIG BOY. His name was Oliver, but he got so Big, they changed his name to Boliver. Boliver came to me when a volunteer at the rescue told have another cat, Tigger, and a pug, Prissy. The first couple of days, Boliver stayed in my linen closet. Now he sleeps on my bed. One minute him and Tigger will be "fighting/ playing" and the next they are curled up together. Elaine

It has been one year since adding Burt to our family. He spends his nights curled up in his over sized chair which happens to be beside our bed. If it's a school day, he'll walk down to the bus with the kids - he has even hopped on the bus twice! When we return home, he is tired out and climbs up on the sofa for a well-deserved nap. Burt always knows when the kids get home and barks at the door to be let out and runs down the hill to meet them. He is a wonderful dog and is great with all five kids....but likes mommy best of all!
| We adopted Eli and Petunia (Tuners) from Helping Paws this past August! Eli was a kitten only about 3 months old. Tuners is an older cat about 10 years old who was brought to the rescue when her owner passed away. Eli, being a kitten, took to his new home right away..exploring every nook and cranny. Tuners on the other hand hid behind the refrigerator or under the kitchen table. It has been 3 months now and we are happy to say Tuners has made great progress. She now comes in the living room and sits with us. She's even jumped on to our laps! Eli has a lot of energy and sometimes Tuners has to put him in his place. Eli loves the outdoors, but gets nervous if we're not out there with him. He even ventures upstairs with us when we go visit our neighbor. Tuners doesn't like leaving the apartment, but she now loves visitors and thinks they should pay attention to her! We love them both and are very happy to have them in our lives! | This is Shane with his new owner Theodora. He has become very attached and follows her around the house. Shane especially likes it when she is in the kitchen!!! Theodora and her husband Dave have been coming to Helping Paws adoption clinics for months and have visited many shelters in the area - until they met Shane and it was love at first site! |
Remember Sparky! Here's what a lot of love will do for Sparky came over to visit after a recent trip to the groomer. He loves his baths!! They go everywhere together - even to church.
Ally is awesome!!! This is the new and improved family. We love her! Thanks soooooo much for providing a loving, temporary home for her. She is all settled in next to me on her Shearing dog bed. She loves to go for car rides, walks to the bus stop every morning, to the grocery store, dump, beach, etc. Anywhere we go, she and Shiloh go. Thanks again for all the great work you do!

Meet our newest addition - Simba. Tigger, Taz and Snow White did their hissing routine for a couple of days, but they all get along fine now. Simba is 4 months old and ever so tiny as you can see him next to Taz! He loves to be cuddled, held and give kisses. He's made himself right at home and sleeps on our sing bed between our pillows. We tried putting him in his bed on the floor, but he hopped right back into our bed. And he's photogenic! We just fell in love with him!! Yeah...I think we'll stop at 4 but, hey, ya never know! Rhonda and Alan

This is Leon. We adopted him early winter of 2007 at Clifton Park Petco. He had a "snaggle-tooth", so his full name is Leon Snaggletooth. His name was originally Dundee. We got an older mom cat from the shelter too - we were happy with our two older cats, all was good. But...my teenage son brought home a kitten from his friend's litter of kittens. Leon licked the kitten and let her snuggle up to him. It was fun seeing the kittens grow, but we would all agree that Leon is definitely in the top 2 favorites of the 4 cats. He is like a big teddy bear at 17 pounds. He is very special to us and we are very happy to have him in our family. Sincerely - Julie
Bootie at home is quite the little devil. As you can see, if it's a toy, it's his. Even if it's not, it's probably his too. He did manage to leave the undecorated Christmas tree alone last year. I am hoping he'll be just as good once he sees this year's has ornaments. Bootie now has 2 big sisters, Emmie and Zoey. He gets special enjoyment out of "torturing" Emmie he and Zoe take to each other. Lil Boot is a real sweetheart, he loves everyone. To say he's brought nothing but joy to our lives even Emmie's is an understatement and we all love him to pieces. Thanks again - Paula

We got Ken from the Clifton Park Clinic in December of 2008. As soon as we got him out of the carrier and saw how chubby he was, we thought the name PorkChop would suit him best. My son likes to call him Robo though. PorkChop immediately made himself at home. He is such a lovable and unusual cat. We've never seen anything like him before. He is more like a puppy than a cat - begs for good off our plates, loves to cuddle, sits on our shoulders even while we walk around! He usually ends up climbing under the blankets to go to sleep with us at night. It's like he's always been a part of our family and we couldn't be happier with him. He is the perfect lap cat, always wanting to be next to us! Thank you so much for making this possible - PorkChop.

We adopted 11 month old Ace (the black cat) on January 24, 2009 at the Clifton Park him that we had to bring him home. He fit in instantly with our 13 year old dog Cinder - Ace walked over to Cinder - licked him on the head - instant friends. Our 2 1/2 year old cat, Isabelle, took two days before she warmed up to Ace. Now Isabelle and Ace are never far apart. They love sleeping on the trunk in front of the window sunbathing and snoozing during the day. Ace loves to be in our lap. He is quite mischievous (loves unrolling the toilet paper off the roll or taking one of our sneakers upstairs). He loves chasing the soft rubber golf balls down the stairs and will return them to you in his mouth (just adorable). Having Ace has helped bring Isabelle out of her shell: she is more playful and outgoing. Ace is a great addition to our family. We are so happy that we adopted him. Thank you, Helping Paws Rescue, for our Ace! Sherry, Ernie, Cinder, Isabelle & Ace Scotia, NY

About 2.5 years ago, I came to the rescue looking for a new companion. I found Buddy. Buddy has been a great addition to my family and is the friendliest cat I have ever encountered. If he sees someone walking by the house, he will run up to them and lay down waiting to get pet. He even wandered into my neighbors house and took a nap on their couch before coming home for food. This guy is hilarious! He is doing well and loves his new home. Look how fat he's gotten! Thank you - Christian

We just wanted to tell you the joy that has been brought into our lives when we adopted "Icicles' from HPR in March of 2009. We have since named him Theodore James Peter (Theo for short) and he has been the most wonderful, loving kitty in the world. We love him very much and thank you for the opportunity for us to have him. Here are some recent photos of him. We have to admit that our camera is now filled with photos of him being the adorable cat that he is. We couldn't have asked for more! Thanks again! Nick and Maria

We happily adopted Stormy 2 1/2 years ago, and have had the greatest time with her since. She is one of the weirdest cats I have ever met. She has some of the strangest habits. She constantly sticks her tongue out and drools. Sometimes she looks like a dog when she does this. She sleeps in the oddest places. Yesterday I found her in my father's closet, curled up next to his roller skates. The next day, she'll be lying on top of a Wal-Mart bag in the kitchen. She doesn't quite meow, she makes more of an "Ooow" noise. It's so cute. Even though she may be odd, we love her all the same. She's my favorite kitten and I will love her forever. ~Deanna (The Culver family)

Chilupa is doing well. Adopting him has been a positive, life changing experience for both of us! He is a wonderful companion. My cats like him. They aren't all "warm and fuzzy" with him yet, but they are being good sports. The younger cat who is still a kitten loves to tease him. I know it won't be long before they are chasing each other around the house. He had a bath today and played with the dog next door for a while. Thanks again for letting him come home with me. Sheri
